Wu Hsing Tao School
A WEAMA Silver business Sponsor since 2003
Mission Statement
Wu Hsing Tao School offers a full professional acupuncture training program in Traditional
Five Element Acupuncture based on the teachings of the late Professor Worsley. The
School's focus is to go beyond teaching acupuncture as a medical technique but to
transform each student into an instrument of acupuncture as a medicine.
History
Five Element Psychology is a system derived from the ancient Chinese way of viewing
Nature and teaches the client how to attain living in harmony with the eco system of the
landscape of the soul. The client is assisted in recognizing the various roles he/she
embodies and is taught to become conscious of them in order to take a more decisive
and active role in his/her life. The client discovers how he/she functions predominantly,
where the strengths and weaknesses are and how to embody other characteristics to
meet the challenge of any life situation.
Programs Offered
Wu Hsing Tao School (WHTS) offers Five Element Acupuncture by Dirk P. Hein M. Ac (UK)
and Five Element Psychology in counseling by Chaitania Hein, MA. At WHTS, a full variety
of health issues are treated, from severe physical health problems or chronic depression
to merely feeling "off" or ungrounded, Traditional Five Element Acupuncture is a branch
of ancient Chinese system of acupuncture brought to the West by Professor JR Worsley.
This form of acupuncture emphasizes the body/mind/spirit connection of any symptom
or disease, acute or chronic. The healthy body/mind has all the necessary tools to heal
itself as we experience in our body's ability to heal cuts and bruises, broken bones or to
recover from surgery. When we are resilient, we even recover from a broken heart or
overcome a neurosis. When our body/mind is unable to heal itself, these self relying
mechanisms have broken down. In treating the weakest link of organ system, (the
Causative Factor as Professor Worsley coined it,) we assist Nature in regaining her
strength, thus allowing the body to be able to heal the acute symptom, the chronic
disease or the broken heart.
The didactic portion of the training is taught in 3-day weekend intensives followed by
monitored independent study assignments for 2 months. This class format allows for the
learned material to be internalized as well as professionals to maintain their work while
going to school. During the 3rd year the student enters the clinical phase of the training
and completes all hours needed for graduation, licensing and national
accreditation.

Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine
A WEAMA Silver business Sponsor since 2004
Mission Statement
The mission of the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine is to train well-prepared and
well-rounded practitioners of East Asian medicine. This is achieved by emphasizing active
learning with a focus on problem solving in clinically based, apprentice like experiences.
At the same time, students are exposed to a variety of approaches to East Asian medicine
that engenders awareness and respect for the validity of different healing traditions. The
entire program is designed to give students a solid grounding in the basics of East Asian
medicine and supply the tools and encouragement for students to develop their own
approaches.
History
The Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine's program received candidate status from the
Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in May 1996. It was first
accredited in 1998, and reaccredited by ACAOM in 2001.
Programs Offered
The Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine offers a master's degree in acupuncture and
East Asian medicine. The program is three years (36 months) in duration, with classes and
clinic occurring 45 weeks out of the year in three 15-week trimesters. Students spend
approximately 22 hours per week in clinical training courses. The courses and clinic are
designed to be taken as one cohesive unit; therefore, all students are expected to enroll
on a full-time basis. Classes are often set in a "problem-based" format that requires
extensive individual and team research.
The school has set forth several educational objectives for its students to attain upon
graduation. Through SIOM's instruction and training, graduates will be:
- Knowledgeable in different approaches to East Asian medicine and able to access
resources in Chinese and English.
